compartirWe understand Social Services to be a fundamental tool of the Administration, which makes possible access to equal opportunities among the different cross-sections of the citizenry. Social action should reach those people who have difficulty supporting themselves with sufficient social, physical or mental autonomy, securing the maximum development of the capacities of each individual, and considering their situation from a broad community point of view; taking into account their family members or others responsible for their care, but also their participation as a citizen in their natural environment, to the extent that it is possible.
- The effectiveness of Social Services depends, largely, on Councils receiving adequate resources and power over basic services.
- The people with greatest difficulties should receive better care under a public health approach to Social Services.
- No to the politics of benefits. Our principal effort should be to create opportunities that allow people to be “socially independent”: creating employment, supporting the process of self-sufficiency, creating the right environment in the job market, and making appropriate changes if they are necessary. Social security benefits should be designed to enhance this personal journey, and should adapt to different circumstances.
- Commitment to equality: merit and ability should be the only common measure of success in the workplace, for appointment to positions of responsibility and the corresponding financial rewards.
- No to bureaucracy: social services should be accesible and as competitive as possible. The current administrative structure prevents this. To make this possible, coordination and simplification of administrative procedures are necessary.
- The family is central in the promotion of the values of co-existence and respect, to achieve a more socially responsible society.
